Lions (Kindergarten)

Lions Den is for Kids in Kindergarten, Ages 5-6

In Cub Scouts, the Lions Den offers children a great start in learning values, making friends, and developing new skills in a friendly environment. For them, it’s an exciting way to give kids a positive introduction to Scouting while offering parents the opportunity to participate in a structured environment. With structured, age-appropriate learning, the troop has a ton fun and gets set up for long-term success in Scouting and in life.

Cub Scouts Activities for Lions

Fun Activities

Activities for Lions are interactive and hands-on. They often include games, crafts, and basic outdoor activities like hiking or simple camping experiences that are developmentally appropriate for young children. These activities are structured to help them explore and learn through play.

Family-Centric

The Lions Den is unique because it emphasizes family involvement. Parents or adult guardians are required to participate alongside their child. The program allows families to engage together in group activities, creating stronger bonds and helping kids feel more comfortable in the Cub Scout environment.

Character Building

The activities focus on teaching core values like kindness, respect, honesty, and responsibility, which are foundational to the Scouting experience. They also learn about the Scout Law and Scout Oath, which helps instill values early on.

Badges and Achievements

Similar to other levels in Cub Scouts, Lions earn patches and badges for completing activities. These are often small, achievable goals, like learning about safety or helping others.

Benefits to the Cub Scout in Lions Den

Socialization

At this age, kids are learning how to interact with others, and the Lion’s Den gives them a fun, structured environment where they can practice these skills with peers.

Confidence Building

Completing activities, earning badges, and working with their family all help Lions feel a sense of accomplishment. This boosts their self-esteem and confidence, and encourages them to try new things.

Development of Basic Skills

Activities like knot tying, cooking, and learning about the environment help to lay the groundwork for more advanced skills later in their Scouting journey.

Love for Nature and the Outdoors

Exposure to outdoor activities like hikes and nature walks helps kids develop an appreciation for the environment and gives them a healthy outlet to be active.

Learning Values and Teamwork

Children get an early introduction to teamwork and responsibility. They learn how to follow rules, work with others, and help out in group settings, which are essential life skills.
